What must I do if I want to be Born Again into God's family?
In order to be truly Born Again into God's family (without pretending to be so), there are several steps of a process of change that occurs within one's heart, as well as noticable behavior that corresponds to each step of change.   For some people, the whole process of change can happen within a few seconds; for others, it may take much longer – days or months.  But change does occur!

Conviction.
Unless you are convicted that you are a condemned sinner because of your inheritance of Adam's sin, and your rejection of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and know that you are bound to Hell, then why do you need any savior for your soul?  If you do not believe what God says from His Word, the Bible, by telling you of your sinful status, you can go where you deserve.

The Bible says that all men are sinners (Romans 3:23), that the wages of sin are death (Romans 6:23), and if you say there is no sin in you, you are deceiving yourself (1 John 1:8).

But if you have realized the real condition of your soul and seriously want to correct the situation, then you must honestly ask your inner-self whether you agree that you are a sinner.

If you have a strong desire to set youself FREE from the consistent binding force of unsolved sins that you have never confessed to anyone around you yet, then you have only one qualified Lawyer waiting for you to come to Him for a free counselling.

Admission.
If you are convicted of the state of your soul, then you must ADMIT to God in your prayer that you are a sinner and that you want to be free of the bondage of your sins.  If you sincerely admit, you can now surely see what God has prepared for you and others according to His Plan of Salvation recorded in the Bible long before His creation of the world (2 Timothy 1:9).

God's Good News - His Plan of Salvation.
Even though God's own creation, Adam & Eve (who were created in God's own image [Genesis 1:27] and who disobeyed God's command to them [Genesis 3:11], resulting in their expulsion from His garden [Genesis 3:24] for their disobedience) grievously sinned against God and dissapointed Him in their choice, God had also prepared only one chance for men to return to Him and to be restored to his fellowship.  God's Plan of Salvation is freely given by His grace to those men, women, and children who can truly appreciate and receive that Free Gift from Him by faith alone.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

"For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." (John 3:17)

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)

"For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life." (Romans 5:10)

"Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life." (Romans 5:18)

Personal Confession to God & repentance.
While you have been reading these Questions and Answers on Salvation presented in these Web pages, please search your heart and see if you are experiencing something different in feeling or understanding, or developing a stronger curiosity, or a desire to restore the broken relationship between God and yourself.

Even if you desire very much to restore a relationship with God, He cannot take you for what you are, a sinner – a son of Satan.  But by His Plan of Salvation:
  • if you ADMIT and CONFESS in your prayer to Him that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who died on the cross 2000 years ago to forgive your sins and the sins of others,
  • if you confess to God that you have ACCEPTED Jesus Christ as your personal SAVIOR AND LORD,
then God will see you as righteous before Him because of the Blood of Jesus, and He will gladly receive you as a newly Born Again child into His Family.  Your Salvation is now guaranteed by the promise of God as He has recorded in the Bible – do not doubt His promise, for He alone is faithful and His love for you as His child is unconditional (Romans 8:38,39).

At that time, the visible evidence of your changed heart and the new status of your soul will bring forth changes in your behavior, which is a true REPENTANCE of your past life as a sinner following Satan, but now completely turning toward God, your newly adopted spiritual Father.

True repentance is different from a mere regretting because while you cannot see the results of regret, you can see the results of repentance.   Because of your deep gratefulness to God who saved your soul from the eternal punishment of Hell, you want to do something to please Him in anyway you can.  For example, turning from a worldly lifestyle to a godly lifestyle could be a sample of the result of true repentance.  For more information on how much your life should be changed by becoming a Born Again Christian, please see FAQ #9.

Acceptance of Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.
If you firmly believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who died for your sins, then you should confess to other Born Again Christians that you also have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior – this is your public confession (Romans 10:9).

Also, as an act of first obedience to Jesus Christ as Lord, for a newly Born Again Christian (Matthew 28:19), you should follow up your public confession with water baptism by immersion.   This act is a public identification with Christ and His followers.
If you had any type of baptism before your spiritual birth, it was meaningless, so you should be baptized as a newly born child of God.

Your salvation is not determined by whether or not you were baptized prior to your becoming a Born Again Christian or by whether or not you are obedient to be baptized as a newly born child of God.  But baptism is indeed your first act of obedience to your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ – an act you should want to demonstrate to Him and to other people, with great joy and gratitude for what He has given for you!

The following story from the Bible is just one example of how a person hears and responds to God's Plan of Salvation, and then immediately requests baptism from a heart of gratitude and obedience:

Acts 8:27-38
"...and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,   28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias [Isaiah (ed.)] the prophet.   29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.   30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias [Isaiah 53:7-8 (ed.)], and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?   31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.   32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:   33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth [Isaiah 53:7-8 (ed.)].   34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?   35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.   36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?   37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.   38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him."

29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
